Drôme Provençale: B&Bs and Vacation Rentals
The western part of the Drôme Provençale between the Pre-Alpes and the river Rhône is pretty much an extension of the Vaucluse with historic villages, vineyards, lavender fields and the rolling green hills of the Pre-Alpes. In the middle the Enclave des Papes (Popes' Enclave), a historic oddity: an exclave of the Vaucluse in the Drôme Provençale. The further north you go, the greener it gets. While Montélimar is the area's most important town, Grignan and the historic villages around it attract most of the visitors.
Les Baronnies, the Baronnial Lands, is the eastern part of the Drôme Provençale; mountainous and a bit off the beaten track for most Provence visitors from overseas. This is the land of mountains, lavender, linden trees, olive oil and medicinal herbs. Nyons and Buis les Baronnies are the two important towns here, but the numerous small villages are definitely worth a visit. You find authenticity, peace, zen!
