The Luberon is on almost every Provence visitor's list. The clear blue skies, aromatic air, the green Garrigue covered hills of the Petit and Grand Luberon and the Plateau du Vaucluse with their ancient perched villages.
Further west, only 30 km from Avignon, lies l'Isle sur la Sorgue (Island in the Sorgue), the gateway to the Luberon. A bustling market town, famous for its Sunday morning Provençal market and many antique shops during the summer time.
The Luberon is at its best during spring and autumn. So don't be surprised if you encounter difficulties booking the lodging of your choice for a trip in May/June and September/October. You are de facto in high season. July/August are even more difficult when many French vacation here. Better book months in advance!
